But, there's nothing to a '74 model Ironhead turn signal system. All the wires for the system were gray but had these little 'colored rubber bands' on the ends of the wires near the signal lights. The violet bands were for the left side and the brown bands were for the right side turn signals Now, I cannot send the wiring diagram through this forum as it will not allow for an attachment. Make sure the contacts in the light sockets are it their proper position. There's a little tab on one side that's supposed to keep them where they belong. You could also have a bad or dirty contact in the TS switch itself, defective TS relay, or a wire with a bare spot that is touching metal intermitantly. Using a volt/ohm meter and checking all the wiring, bulbs, etc., etc.

Will help you to determine what the exact problem is.Could be the relay, switch or a grounding problem (wired rubbed through insulation and touching metal) that is causing the problem. You need to troubleshoot it with a multimeter.

Look up under the rear fender and check the wiring harness. Chances are you have a place where the harness has rubbed against the tire causing a short.- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech. Posted on May 12, 2011.

66 Answers SOURCE: If you have two wires that go to the turn signal and they don't work one way. You could try them switched around. This is for a turn signal that is NOT also a running light. (Yellow Lens to Rear) Use a test light and turn on the turn signal test both wires with the test light clipped to the ground or chassis of the bike. The wire that causes the light to blink will be the positive or hot side.

That wire should attach to the bottom of the bulb. The other wire is the Ground or common and that should attach to the side of the bulb holder. Posted on Jun 07, 2011. Hi Anonymous, your front brake lite switch button is probably not getting pushed back into the off position. Remove your right handelbar switch housing and push the plastic button in and out with your finger to see if the light goes off and on. If not disconnect the wires to your rear brake lite switch and check the front switch button again. If the button works then reinstall the switch housing and push it towards the master cylinder hard and hold it with one hand and retighten the screws with the other.

Hi Anonymous, always check fuses and bulbs first, you could have a faulty turn signal module or a bad turn signal button/switch, remove it from the switch housing and check for continuity, check your wiring and connections from the turn signal switch to the turn signal module with a test light. Make sure all wires are not worn or pinched and connector pins are not corroded, broken, or loose.
